Founded in 2009 and fully established in 2022, Saint Mary’s Cathedral Choir has migrated from Saint Brigid’s School to Stella Maris Academy. The choir school consists of both out of school lessons and a strengthened in school music curriculum, creating a robust musical education for choir members in particular while also benefiting all other students
When does the Choir School Convene?
The choir school meets every weekday from 7:30 to 8:15 AM, before Stella Maris Academy starts their day.
In addition to their daily practice, the choir school frequently performs at family masses and festivals.
Who Can Attend?
Children can attend starting third grade. Membership to the choir school is exclusive to students of Stella Maris Academy.
What is the Cost?
The choir school is completely free of charge for all Stella Maris students. Dedicated members can earn scholarships that will go towards paying their school tuition.
What special events does the choir school attend?
In addition to monthly performances at Star of the Sea Church’s family mass and at Saint Mary’s Cathedral, older choir members are invited to sing at special events, including the Rosary Rally Mass and the Walk for Life.
The choir school also goes on tour every other year, alternating between the California Missions and Rome.
The Choir School is directed by Dr. Christoph Tietz with the aid of Ms. Jennifer Park, Stella Maris Academy’s music teacher.
Christoph Tietz holds a doctorate in sacred music from the Graduate Theological Foundation. He has published several books and has directed choirs for over forty years.
Jennifer Park serves as a cantor and choir member at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Choir while pursuing graduate studies in Music Therapy at University of the Pacific,
